Godmother of Rock & Roll: Sister Rosetta Tharpe own the stage at Café Society in New York's Greenwich Village. Born in 1915 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, the "Godmother of Rock & Roll" made her debut as a performer at age six, first playing guitar and singing gospel, then later bringing her original rock & roll style on tour across the U.S. and Europe. One of the first women to play electric guitar, Tharpe was a multitalented singer, songwriter, and recording artist whose sold out concerts broke down color barriers. Her innovative fusion of spiritual lyrics with heavy hooks and blistering guitar solos on her signature Gibson SG helped create the rock Y roll we know today. Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Johnny Cash, and many others honor Tharpe as their inspiration. In 2018, "The Original Soul Sister" was inducted into the Rock  Roll Hall of Fame.
